Best Historic Structures

Being a  member of the Society of Industrial Archeology, I'm pleased to find many cache owners hiding their caches near areas of historic significance and including links to detailed information in the cache descriptions.

GC4976 - Ye Old Aqueduct - Wilmington, MA

These are the remains of the Shawsheen Aqueduct which carried the Middlesex Canal over the Shawsheen River.  The canal ran from Charlestown to Lowell.  Learn more at the website and museum of the Middlesex Canal Association.

GC40F6 - Stony Brook Overlook - Westford,MA

Many caches are located along the right-of-way of long forgotten railroads.  This impressive stone bridge is was built in 1872 from granite blocks from nearby Graniteville.  Westford Conservation Trust

GC78D - Echo Bridge - Newton, MA

Built by the Boston Water Board in 1877, this aqueduct carried water from the Quabbin reservoir over the Charles River on its way to Boston. Learn more at the Friends of Hemlock Gorge.

GC1510 - Powderhouse Stash - Exeter, NH

The cache takes its name from this Revolutionary War powderhouse that stored gun powder just outside of town. Details at the Town of Exeter website.

GC5138 - Historic Saxonville - Framingham, MA

One of my favorite caches leads you on a walking tour of this compact mill village.  Map and guide available via links off the cache's webpage.

GC2792 - Tillinghast Mill Ruins - East Greenwich, RI

The well preserved dam, raceway and stone foundations of a 1800's cotton thread factory are located in historic Frenchtown area.  The New England Museum of Wireless and Steam is nearby.

GCDB - Lynn Woods - Lynn, MA

This long-closed observation tower at top of Lynn Woods was build by the WPA in 1936 as an fire tower.  Friends of Lynn Woods
